Personal Training

We’re called Health Coaches because we emphasize helping you preserve and optimize your health.

Our goal is to provide a superior, safe, customized health and fitness regimen, devised by the areas

best-trained, most respected trainers.

Regardless of age, body type, or fitness level, you will benefit from a customized program at Health Coaches. If your goals are as ambitious as training for a marathon or as modest as regaining flexibility, whether you need injury rehabilitation or sports-specific training, Health Coaches will help you achieve results.

In a private consultation, you and your trainer will analyze your lifestyle, exercise, and medical history, diet and nutrition concerns, specific goals and objectives, and motivation levels. Based on this information, your trainer will devise a program that is yours alone. We don’t work from a template. You are unique, and your Health Coaches program is uniquely yours.

Meet Our Personal Trainers

We strive to create a warm and welcoming environment for a diverse group commonly committed to a sense of community and wellness.

Susan Ahlers, M.Ed, CPT

Your wellness journey starts with that one step toward your passion for change in your health and well-being.  Your goals should reflect your motivation to change, not what others think you should change.  With over 30 years of experience in the health and wellness industry, I have had the great opportunity to coach my clients on how to make small lifestyle changes that add up to something big down the road. Your health doesn’t have to be an overwhelming list of things you can’t eat, exercises you have to do, or changes you have to make to your daily routine. It’s about the small changes you make that produce lasting results. Whether you’re just starting an exercise program for the first time or re-evaluating your exercise routine, you can’t get there without a plan and the desire to reach your goal. I coach my clients about finding what motivates them and how they can create a plan to see results. My passion is to help an individual realize their true potential for reaching their health and wellness goals and watch them gain the self-confidence they need to achieve anything.

Susan has a master’s degree in education specializing in Exercise Science from the University of Maine and is certified in Applied Functional Science and Movement Analysis and Performance. She has worked in many capacities throughout her career in the health and fitness industry as a personal trainer, fitness manager, health coach, and in sales and marketing. She has worked with a wide variety of clients with many different goals and abilities. She was a competitive swimmer in college and has trained for many sporting events.  When she’s not working, she likes to run, play golf, paddleboard, kayak, and just spend time outside.

Karen Schilling, MS, CPT

Karen began her training career in 2003 when she became a US Speedskating Level 1 certified coach and took over Great Atlantic Speedskating Club, Maine’s only Short Track Speedskating club. She added a NASM - CPT certification to her toolbox as she worked her way up to USS Level 3 in 2016. Karen never thought she would use the certification but then she had a unique opportunity to fill in at The Body Architect, a local gym. From there she evolved over the next 5 years into lead trainer.

Karen has had several career transitions that have led her to what she considers her favorite career thus far. She was a massage therapist where she learned a lot about anatomy and how to analyze movement patterns. She currently maintains her license as a dietitian. After 15 years at MMC specializing in Oncology, she now combines her nutrition knowledge with dietary strategies that help folks meet their goals. Karen enjoys working with clients of all ages and abilities by meeting them where they are and helping them get stronger and more resilient. She especially loves watching people achieve things they never thought they could.

Karen has been active with many recreational sports including cycling, triathlon, snowshoeing, hiking, and skating. When not training herself or others, Karen can be found at home knitting and relaxing with her

husband Rich, and her two cats.
